Who is Stefan Savic?

We continue our coverage of detailing relatively unknown players who have been catching the headlines with their transfers all over Europe. Today we look at new arrival in the Premiership, a new defender arriving at Eastlands (not the left back who joined from Arsenal) but 20 year old promising defender Stefan Savic.

Stefan Savic has joined Manchester City from Serbian side Partizan Belgrade, for an undisclosed fee, believed to be £6 million. The 20 year old had a 10 day trail with Arsenal back in 2010 and looked to have agreed a move, but the deal never came to fruition. Savic signs a four year contract, and is expected to compete become first choice defensive partner for Vincent Kompany.

Savic made his professional debut aged just 17 for Serbian top flight side BSK Borca and made 27 appearances at the club. After his proposed move to Arsenal fell through, in August 2010 he joined FK Partizan and made his international debut in the same month. He made 20 league appearances for Partizan last season, and today completed his move to Manchester City.

Stefan Savic scout report is as follows; “He has fantastic self-confidence and stability. He is always composed, even though he is a teenager. Stefan has excellent heading technique and positional sense and good anticipation. He needs to improve his strength and of course gain a bit more experience, but he looks on course to develop into a really top defender”.

He has six international caps for Montenegro, and played four times in the 2010/11 Champions League campaign.
