Premier League Preview - Blackpool

Blackpool

The seaside town came from nowhere to pip Swansea to 6th place in The Championship and qualify for the Play-offs. They beat favourites Nottingham Forrest in the semi-finals before beating Cardiff City 3-2 at Wembley, to clinch promotion to the Premiership for the first time ever.

The Tangerines have failed to retain the impressive DJ Campbell, who chipped in with 12 goals in total last year, but manager Ian Holloway will rely on his team’s collective ability and hard working mentality to cause a few upsets in the top flight.

Key Player: Charlie Adam

The 24 year old Scottish midfielder, who can operate on the left or centre of midfield, was instrumental in Blackpool’s success last season, scoring 17 goals in 46 appearances including a goal in the play-off final. The formers Rangers midfielder will be looking to test himself at the highest level again, and look to impress.

Manager: Ian Holloway

Key Signing: Dekel Keinan

The Israeli international’s deal is in the process of going through with a few international clearance and passport issue’s, but is expected to be completed soon. The former Maccabi Haifa centre back has vast experience playing in both the Champions League and UEFA Cup in the past, while winning the Israeli Premier League two times in his career. His experience will be vital if Blackpool are going to have any chance of staying up.

Aims: Relegation battlers, gaining essential top flight experience

Prediction: 20th

I believe Blackpool have an excellent manager in Ian Holloway, but will be in a relegation fight from day one, mainly down to their overall lack of quality up front, subsequently struggling to score goals. He will however, be able to rely on Jason Euell and Stephen Crainey for previous Premiership experience, while key players Brett Ormerod and David Vaughen to steady the ship. But with one week till their first game, additions are needed.

First Five Fixtures: Wigan (A), Arsenal (A), Fulham (H), Newcastle (A), Chelsea (A)
