Premier League Preview - West Bromwich Albion

West Bromwich Albion

Roberto’s Di Matteo’s West Brom side came up last season from the Championship, along with Newcastle and Blackpool. The perennial yoyo team have been in and out of the Premiership of the last nine years, while consolidation and staying up would be the perfect aim for the midlands club.

For this campaign, Nicky Shorey joins from Aston Villa on loan, former Spanish international Pablo Ibanez from Athletico Madrid and defensive midfielder Steven Reid from Blackburn, both on a free transfer. While also signing Gabriel Tamas from Auxerre after an impressive loan period last season.

Key Player: Scott Carson

The former Liverpool goalkeeper is West Brom’s club captain, and can expect to have his work cut out this season. He is a former England international, having won 3 caps, and looks to be aiming to get back into the international frame with West Brom.

Manager: Roberto Di Matteo

Key Signing: Nicky Shorey

Nicky Shorey joins from Aston Villa on loan to add Premier League experience at the West Brom backline. He has played for Reading, Fulham and Aston Villa in the Premiership, and has 2 international caps for England.

Aims: Avoid Relegation

Prediction: 19th

It will be very hard for West Brom as they lack the required experience to stay up this year, both with the players and the manager. West Brom play some very attacking football, so hopefully this will continue, but the likes of Gianni Zuiverloon, Jerome Thomas and James Morrison will all have to up their game if West Brom are to survive.
First Five Fixtures: Chelsea (A), Sunderland (H), Liverpool (A), Tottenham (H), Birmingham (H)
